Silicon Motion Technology Corporation (NasdaqGS: SIMO) is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets high performance, low-power semiconductor solutions for multimedia consumer electronics applications, such as mobile phones and smartphones, digital cameras, camcorders, notebook and tablet PCs, and personal navigation devices.
Founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, Silicon Motion is currently headquartered in Taiwan, with design centers and sales offices in Taiwan, Korea, China, and the US, and a branch office in Japan.
Silicon Motion has three product lines: mobile storage, mobile communications, and multimedia SoCs. Mobile storage products are composed of microcontrollers used in NAND flash memory storage products such as flash memory cards, USB flash drives, solid state drives (SSDs), and embedded flash solutions. Mobile communications products are composed primarily of mobile TV IC solutions and CDMA RF ICs. Multimedia SoC products are composed primarily of embedded graphics processors.
Silicon Motion is a global leader in microcontroller ICs for NAND flash storage devices and mobile TV IC solutions for mobile devices. We are the leading supplier of innovative NAND flash controllers for managing the latest TLC (3 bits per cell MLC) architecture NAND flash components as well as NAND flash designed and fabricated using the most advanced deep sub-micron process geometries. We are a market leader in supplying controllers for use in flash memory cards and USB flash drives, and have been increasingly focused on controllers for SSDs and embedded memory. Silicon Motion is also a leading mobile TV IC solutions supplier in Korea, one of the most advanced mobile TV markets in the world. We have developed a broad portfolio of technologies capable of supporting all the leading global mobile TV standards, including T-DMB in Korea, ISDB-T in Japan and South America, CMMB in China and DVB-T/H in other parts of the world. We market our Mobile Storage and Multimedia SoC products under the "SMI" brand and Mobile Communications products under the "FCI" brand.
