ExxonMobil Opens Its 1,000th on the Run Convenience Store FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2004--ExxonMobil today
announced that the 1,000th On the Run(R) convenience store has opened
in Elmira, N.Y. The facility is operated by Petr-All Petroleum
Consulting Corporation.
"This is a great milestone for the On the Run franchise," said
Mark Shores, U.S. retail sales director for ExxonMobil. "The fact that
we have been able to continue to grow the On the Run brand through
distributor, independent dealer and company-operated stores is
evidence of consumer acceptance of what we are offering. We believe
that our fast, fresh and friendly stores surpass our customers' needs
and expectations."
On the Run is a state-of-the-art convenience store that is
available to qualified Exxon-, Mobil- and Esso-branded retail store
operators around the world. On the Run is designed to meet rising
consumer expectations for fast service, fresh quality products and a
friendly atmosphere. ExxonMobil has franchised On the Run stores in 40
countries and territories around the world.
"The critical value of the On the Run franchise to our company is
the opportunity it provides in regards to our growth strategies with
ExxonMobil, while furthering our continuous relationship through the
sharing of information, technology and best practices," said Petr-All
President Frank Borer. "This attachment will increase our bottom line
while helping to ensure and continue our superiority and longevity in
retail marketing.
"The On the Run format is definitely meeting our expectations. Our
new On the Run has delivered stronger inside and outside sales
performance than our previous facility and will help us more
effectively compete in an ever-changing marketplace. Our customers are
saying things like, 'I do all my shopping here, it's just beautiful.'"
Petr-All opened three On the Runs in 2003, and plans to open at
least four more this year.
"A key component to the success of On the Run is the ability to
standardize and share a common concept, yet accommodate the offering
to meet the needs of different cultures, markets, and consumers," says
Shores. "That's what separates On the Run convenience stores from the
rest. We have the ability to leverage our scale and experience from
around to world, to bring a superior offering to our customers."
On the Run was named the "2003 Convenience Store Chain of the
Year" by Convenience Store Decisions Magazine. The peer-based award is
determined by extensive polling of retailers, suppliers and other
industry observers. The recipient must show excellence across a number
of criteria from product and service quality to profitability to
public service and positive image.
On the Run stores are designed to offer a wide range of products,
food offerings, coffee, and beverages, in addition to Exxon, Mobil or
Esso (outside the U.S.) gasoline. Many have state-of-the-art carwash
facilities, inside restrooms, and ample parking. Each U.S. store
accepts Speedpass(TM), the unique contactless payment system that is
linked to a customer's credit or check card, helping get customers in
and out quickly and conveniently. The Upromise(TM) college savings
service is also offered for all fuel purchases at On the Run sites in
the U.S. Through this program, ExxonMobil contributes towards a fuel
