Symantec, Oracle Renew Technology Agreement Governing Joint Engineering EffortsMutual Customers to Benefit From Oracle RAC, Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC EffortCUPERTINO, CA, Nov 13, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced it has signed a new
interoperability agreement with Oracle providing for qualification of
Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC synchronously with the
release of new Oracle RAC offerings. The agreement governs the
companies' joint engineering efforts around Veritas Storage
Foundation for Oracle RAC on IBM AIX, HP-UX, and Sun Solaris.
Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC is a proven solution that
delivers and manages highly available Oracle RAC databases. With this
new agreement, Symantec is the only software platform partner included
in the Oracle RAC Program. Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC
certifications will be part of Oracle's release process and will be
immediately supported with each new release of Oracle RAC. Veritas
Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC includes market leading Veritas
Cluster Server and Veritas Storage Foundation technology, allowing
customers to standardize on common infrastructure across the data
center, reducing cost and complexity within the enterprise data
center.
"Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC provides the industry's
only heterogeneous cluster file system supporting Oracle RAC, which
enables our joint customers to increase storage utilization and
operational efficiency, rapidly move information based on changing
business needs, and protect critical data and applications," said Rob
Soderbery, senior vice president of Symantec's Storage Foundation
Group. "Today, this extended agreement reaffirms Symantec's ongoing
commitment to help organizations using Oracle RAC maintain the
highest degree of performance and uptime through its storage
management and high-availability technologies."
Symantec and Oracle continue with certification of Veritas Storage
Foundation for Oracle RAC on various UNIX platforms, and recently the
Symantec solution was certified on multiple platforms with Oracle
10gR2. The technology agreement announced today covers both Oracle 10g
and Oracle RAC 11g. Symantec will deploy engineers and systems at
Oracle to complete testing and certification as part of Oracle's
release cycle.
Also as part of the renewed UNIX technology agreement, Symantec will
support Oracle's Automatic Storage Management (ASM) over VxVM and CVM
for Oracle RAC on AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris. This support will enable
Oracle RAC to leverage the dynamic multi-pathing capabilities of
Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC, which maximizes
performance by load-balancing I/O activity across all available paths
and reduces total cost of ownership by eliminating the need for
third-party multi-pathing software.
In addition, Symantec is working to develop an Oracle Enterprise
Manager (OEM) grid control plug-in for Storage Foundation for Oracle
RAC. This plug-in will provide database administrators a view into
Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC and highlight how database files,
control files, redo logs, and tablespaces are allocated; see mount
points, mount properties, volume usage; view detailed property
information for volumes; and more.
Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC leverages Symantec's
industry-leading Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Cluster File
System, and Veritas Cluster Server solutions and has been tightly
integrated with Oracle RAC to provide a reliable, easy-to-use storage
and cluster management solution. It also provides a single management
view for all storage management tasks, enabling IT organizations to
install, configure, manage, and perform tasks centrally, independent
of server or storage hardware.
