NetScout Ranked Number One Growth Company in Massachusetts by Boston Globe
Boston Globe 22nd Annual Listing Places NetScout as Seventh Best Performing Technology Company and Thirtieth Overall
WESTFORD, Mass., May 20, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --NetScout(R) Systems, Inc., today announced that the company was named by the Boston Globe in the "Growth 50" list as the number one top growth company in Massachusetts with more than 35 percent average annual revenue growth and nearly 133 percent average annual income growth over the past two years. Among technology companies, NetScout placed number seven out of 19 in a vertical market listing in the annual "Globe 100", a ranking by the Boston Globe of top performing public companies in Massachusetts. Overall, NetScout ranked number 30 out of 82 companies that were featured for their ability to demonstrate two consecutive years of profits. This was the first time in 22 years that a full 100 companies did not meet the Globe's requirement of profitability. The Globe 100 list ranks the best-performing, publicly traded corporations based in Massachusetts by how well they increased revenue, profit margin, and return on equity for shareholders during 2009.
This year's ranking builds on the momentum NetScout demonstrated in last year's Boston Globe 100. In the 2009 rankings, NetScout jumped more than 50 places to 38th place overall. In 2009, the "Growth 50" list ranked NetScout number nine, having moved up considerably from number 50 in 2008.
"The Boston Globe's recognition of NetScout as a top performing company in Massachusetts is strong affirmation of our focus in meeting the needs of our customers," said David Sommers, chief financial officer and senior vice president of general operations, NetScout. "Our ability to increase revenue and profitability throughout the recent economic challenges is a tribute to our employees' hard work and dedication to maintaining strong customer relationships."
To be considered for the Globe 100, a company must maintain its headquarters in Massachusetts and publicly trade its stock on NASDAQ, the New York Stock Exchange, or the American Stock Exchange. The 2010 Globe 100 list is based on a composite score derived from financial data for the four quarters ending closest to December 31, 2009, and for corresponding quarters one year earlier. The company must also have been public for the entire 2009 calendar year, and have reported revenue and profit for both 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the Globe 100 recognized only 82 companies as the organization's longstanding requirement that companies show two consecutive years of profits eliminated many from contention. The Globe Growth 50 list ranks the top 50 publicly traded companies in Massachusetts, with the highest average revenue and income growth for two full years with reported profits in all periods.
