FPL Nears Completion of Restoration in Wake of Tropical Storm AlbertoJUNO BEACH, Fla., Jun 13, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Florida Power & Light Company (NYSE:FPL) reported today
that its system sustained minimal damage as a result of Tropical Storm
Alberto. At its peak, no more than approximately 11,000 customers from
Sarasota to St. Augustine were without power at any given time due to
Alberto, and FPL said it expects to restore power to all affected
customers by tonight.
"We were prepared for the worst and are pleased that Alberto
carried less of a punch than we anticipated," said Geisha J. Williams,
FPL vice president of power distribution and the executive in charge
of power restoration. "Although the storm had minimal impact, Alberto
served as a reminder to all of us to be prepared for what could be an
active hurricane season."
Even before Alberto made landfall, FPL had deployed company and
contract crews from throughout its service territory to restore
service following Alberto's path through west, north and central
Florida. As the crews complete service restoration to customers in
these areas, FPL asks customers who are not affected by Alberto to be
patient as the company works to restore power to those impacted by the
storm.
The company asks everyone -- customers and employees -- to focus
on safety before and after the storm and says it will focus on
minimizing customer inconvenience.
