H.J. Heinz Company (ticker: HNZ, exchange: New York Stock Exchange (.N)) News Release - 4-Jun-2002

Ruh Roh! Scooby-Doo Solves the Secret of Snacking with New Snausages Scooby Snacks from Heinz Pet Products

PITTSBURGH, Jun 4, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Looking to solve the snacking mystery for your courageous canine? Then rev up the Mystery Machine, cue the scary music and head to Spooksville. Heinz Pet Products, an affiliate of the H.J. Heinz Company (NYSE:HNZ), and legendary cartoon dog Scooby-Doo have teamed up to make snacking a thrill with new Snausages Scooby Snacks. Through a new licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products, Heinz Pet Products will bring two beloved family brands together.

Snausages(R) Scooby Snacks are specially designed for adventure-loving dogs everywhere. They are the first dog snack that invites kids and their dogs to play a mystery game, just like Scooby-Doo and his thrill-seeking friends.

"When it comes to snacking, it's no mystery why some dogs have all the fun," said Krista Sahnd, senior brand manager, Snausages Scooby Snacks. "That's why we believe that pairing Heinz Pet Products and Scooby-Doo is a natural choice for fun-loving families and their fearless dogs. Because of Scooby-Doo's wild popularity and the great taste of new Scooby Snacks, both kids and their dogs will enjoy the adventure of great snacking."

When groovy Snausages Scooby Snacks hit the shelves this May, the custom-shaped crunchy biscuits will be available in two tasty varieties for dogs to dig:

-- "Where Are You?" -- snacks created for small-to-medium-sized
dogs, are shaped like Scooby-Doo's favorite foods, including
cheese wedges, pizza, drumsticks and "Zoinks! Bones." Flavors
include beef, cheese, chicken and pizza. The "Where Are You?"
mystery game detailed on pack encourages kids to line up the
different food shapes with the "Zoinks! Bone" at the end. When
the dog sniffs its way to the "Zoinks! Bone," the kid and dog
have solved the mystery just like Shaggy and Scooby-Doo.
-- "Scavenger Hunt" -- created for medium-to-large-sized dogs,
are shaped to resemble Scooby, Shaggy, the Mystery Machine and
Scooby's dog tag. Flavors include beef, cheese, chicken and
bacon. This variety has a list of scavenger hunt items printed
on the back of the box. The objects include those commonly
found in a neighborhood, such as mailboxes and trees. Kids
search for the items while dogs are rewarded with Snausages
Scooby Snacks as each item is checked off the list. This
spooky, haunted hunt will have dog lovers everywhere asking
"Scooby-Doo, where are you?" (Haunted houses and guests not
        included.)
Jeepers, the package is cool, too! Both varieties of Snausages Scooby Snacks are packaged in 24-oz. cartons that will satisfy any dog's munchies. Packaging includes eye-catching psychedelic colors and details. Scooby-Doo himself also appears prominently on each carton. Suggested retail price for Snausages Scooby Snacks is $2.89.

Scooby-Doo was created by animation legends William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, and "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" holds the title as one of the longest running animated series in television history. The series, which currently airs on the Cartoon Network, is one of the network's top rated shows.

Scooby-Doo will be on the minds of families this summer, as Warner Bros. Pictures' comedy adventure "Scooby-Doo" opens in theaters nationwide on June 14, bringing the zany cartoon canine and his friends to a big-screen feature for the first time. "Scooby-Doo" combines a computer-generated Scooby-Doo character with live action stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini. As part of the Snausages Scooby Snacks product introduction, specially marked boxes will offer consumers the chance to win five free movie tickets (a $40 value) to see the new film. Non-winning boxes will contain coupons for savings on Snausages Scooby Snacks.
